Inhuman Treatment of In- Laws Forced Rabia Akthar to Commit suicide : Relatives

Rameez Makhdoomi /Farzana Mumtaz

Rabia Akthar daughter of late Ghulam Ahmad Gabroo  , wife of Bilal Ahmad Bhat,  age 35 year old resident of Downtown  Srinagar  Islamyarbal  Mujahid Manzil   has become yet another symbol of how our women are oppressed and example of  tragedy inflicted by  in-laws, hailing from downtown area of Tarabal Nawakadal  .

According to relatives, after years of torture by in-laws she finally ended her life by  jumping from Nawakadal bridge on September 6 and body was finally fished out on September 7 from Kharbagh , Batwani Ganderbal   .

Niyaz Ahmad Gabroo the cousin of Rabia while speaking to NewsKashmir stated – “ Rabia throughout her married life of six  years was tortured by her heartless in-laws be it her Husband, Brother in- law ,Sister in -law and Mother in Law all made her life hell  .The situation especially  worsened for her when she gave birth to girl child  and was routinely badly abused, taunted and suffered atrocities from her in-laws. Even few days before  suicide  she was mistreated, and given inhumane treatment  and had threatened her in-laws with suicide .Her heartless husband took her in his own vehicle virtually to suicide point and then informed   us but told wrong location. Her husband Bilal Ahmad Bhat is no less than tyrant.  ”

Niyaz Ahmad Adds- “Husband of Rabia has been arrested but we demand swift investigation and arrest of all from her torturous in-laws so that we get justice and example is made of such tyrants .”

Power outage creates Mess in District Hospital Budgam

  • DH Budgam experiences 2-hr power outage due to electrician’s absence
    * Toilets turned into stores; admin in deep slumber

SRINAGAR, Aug 29: ASYM District hospital Budgam has always been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

The hospital experienced power outage from 2:30AM to 4AM and there was no one to start the generator because the electician was absent from duty. Patients and attendants had to bear extreme hardships as the entire hospital building was plunged into total darkness.

“This is very unfortunate and shows how the employees are taking the hospital administration for a ride. There are critical patients admitted here and this kind of callous behaviour is unacceptable,” said Feroz Ahmad, one of the attendents.

The power was restored only after the electrician came at 4 in the morning.

“This hospital also runs 24×7 gynae theatre. Imagine if this power outage had taken place while operation then the life of both mother and child would have been in danger,” said another attendent, Nissar Ahmed.

Significantly, the hospital has for long been a victim of official apathy.

From lack of specialist doctors and paramedical staff to abysmal sanitation conditions, the hospital narrates a dismal tale of official apathy.

There are already less number of toilets in the hospital and to worsen the crisis, some of the toilets have been turned into stores by the administration.

The matter was brought to the notice of minister for health, Mr Bali Bagat, who had directed the director health to get the toilets cleaned up within 12 hours. However, five days have passed but the toilets continue to be in the same state.

NC, PDP Should Pass Resolution on 35 A: JKYJA

Srinagar, August 24: Jammu & Kashmir Young Journalists Association (JKYJA) held an emergency meeting today at its Lal Chowk office. The agenda of the meeting was to discuss and examine threadbare the volatile situation that has arisen out of Article 35 A controversy. Members expressed great concern over how this new controversy has been created and how it’s dividing the people and the communities of the state of J&K.
While expressing his grave concern over the situation, JKYJA President Ajaz Ahmad War said, “This is a sad and serious situation and the BJP needs to understand the sensitive politics of the state and shouldn’t play such mischievous tricks to get political mileage. Such tactics have disastrous far-reaching fallouts and can plunge the state into a further bloody chaos.”
Lashing out on the regional political parties, PDP and NC, Mr. War said if the two parties are serious to bring the state out of this crisis, they should conduct an instant Assembly session in order to pass a resolution to safeguard Article 35 A.
“NC and PDP should stop trying to play politics and make a serious effort to counter this nefarious RSS design. They should conduct an Assembly session and pass the resolution as soon as possible. Otherwise it will remain sub-judice and the people of the state will have a Democle’s sword hanging on their head.”

Cultural differences manifest themselves in different ways and differing levels of depth. Symbols represent the most superficial and values the deepest manifestations of culture, with heroes and rituals in between. Different cultural groups think, feel, and act differently. The position that the ideas, meanings, beliefs and values people learn as members of society determines human nature. It does not imply normalcy for oneself, nor for one’s society. It, however, calls for judgment when dealing with groups or societies different from one’s own. Human beings are passive creatures and do whatever their culture tells them to do. This explanation leads to behaviourism that locates the causes of human behaviour in a realm that is totally beyond human control. The optimistic version of this theory postulates that human nature being infinitely malleable; human being can choose the ways of life they prefer. Culture is a collective programming of the mind that distinguishes the members of one group or category of people from another. Culture refers to the cumulative deposit of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, hierarchies, religion, notions of time, roles, spatial relations, concepts of the universe, and material objects and possessions acquired by a group of people in the course of generations through individual and group striving. Culture is communication, communication is culture. Before venturing on a global assignment, it is probably necessary to identify the cultural differences that may exist between one’s home country and the country of business operation. Heroes are persons, past or present, real or fictitious, who possess characteristics that are highly prized in a culture. They also serve as models for behaviour
