International Day of Non-Violence, Editorial 2 october 2023

International Day of Non Violence
Peace is must for survival of humanity.War has since ages destroyed humanity and its fabric. Violence is a hydra headed monster . Progress,  prosperity and human values can be enriched only in peaceful times. Violence destroys everything.
The International Day of Non-Violence is marked on 2 October, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence. The General Assembly, in a resolution adopted on 5 June 2007, established the commemoration, the International Day as an occasion to disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness. The resolution reaffirms the universal relevance of the principle of non-violence and the desire to secure a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence.
As a matter of fact,
Gandhi was one of the world’s greatest and most influential leaders in the last century and there’s plenty we can learn from him. Here are two of his most beloved quotes. “There are many causes I would die for. There is not a single cause I would kill for.” “An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind.”
This day is recognised to educate people about the importance of peaceful coexistence and conflict prevention. The day was founded with a strong aim to create a non-violent and harmonious world. International Day of Peace provides a platform for people and communities to show their contribution towards developing a peaceful world for all.
On this day, Schools can encourage their students to take pledges by holding special assemblies or events on International Peace Day. They can also incorporate peace education into the curriculum and provide opportunities for students to get involved in peacebuilding activities.
We need to spread love and humanity throughout world.

Hindi Diwas, Editorial 18 September 2023 issue

Hindi Diwas

Hindi Diwas or Hindi Day is celebrated in India to commemorate the date 14 September 1949 on which a compromise was reached—during the drafting of the Constitution of India—on the languages that were to have official status in the Republic of India.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah has extended his best wishes to the countrymen on the occasion of Hindi Diwas. In his message, the Home Minister said that India has been a country of diverse languages. Hindi unites the diversity of languages in the world’s largest democracy. He said that Hindi has been a democratic language. It has honoured different Indian languages and dialects as well as many global languages and adopted their vocabularies, sentences and grammar rules.

Union Home Minister said that the Hindi language played an unprecedented role in uniting the country during the difficult days of independence movement. It instilled a feeling of unity in a country divided into many languages and dialects. Hindi, as a language of communication, played an important role in carrying forward the freedom struggle from East to West and North to South in the country. Shri Shah said that the movements for achieving ‘Swaraj’ and ‘Swabhasha’ were going on simultaneously in the country. Considering the important role of Hindi in the freedom movement and after independence, the architects of the Constitution had accepted Hindi as the official language on 14 September 1949.
We need to bear in mind that Hindi serves as a bridge between different cultures, enabling communication and understanding between speakers of Hindi and other languages such as Urdu. This linguistic connection is particularly significant in the Indian subcontinent, where Hindi and Urdu share many similarities.

World Suicide Prevention Day, Editorial 11 September, 2023

World Suicide Prevention Day

Suicide is a major public health problem with far-reaching social, emotional and economic consequences. It is estimated that there are currently more than 700 000 suicides per year worldwide, and we know that each suicide profoundly affects many more people.

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) was established in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO). The 10th of September each year focuses attention on the issue, reduces stigma and raises awareness among organizations, government, and the public, giving a singular message that suicide can be prevented.
“Creating Hope Through Action” is the triennial theme for the World Suicide Prevention Day from 2021-2023. This theme serves as a powerful call to action and reminder that there is an alternative to suicide and that through our actions we can encourage hope and strengthen prevention.

By creating hope through action, we can signal to people experiencing suicidal thoughts that there is hope and that we care and want to support them. It also suggests that our actions, no matter how big or small, may may provide hope to those who are struggling.

Lastly, it serves as a reminder that suicide prevention is a public health priority and urgent action is required to make sure suicide mortality rates are reduced. WHO will continue to work with its partners to support countries to take concrete measures in this direction.
In Kashmir too Suicide rate has climbed much causing concerns and efforts should be given to counsel those feeling tremendous depression.
We need to bear in mind that we can all play a role in supporting those experiencing a suicidal crisis or those bereaved by suicide whether as a member of society, as a child, as a parent, as a friend, as a colleague or as a person with lived experience.

India walks on Moon, Editorial 28 August 2023

India walks on Moon
In one of the most major moments of pride and joy for entire country since independence, India has become the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the moon. Before India, Russia, the United States of America and China have achieved this remarkable feat.
Chandrayaan-3 has landed on the Moon after “20 minutes of terror” and the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover – carrying six scientific payloads between them – have one lunar day, or 14 Earth days, to gather enough data to satisfy the curiosities of scientists across the world.
This deadline is critical because after a fortnight the solar-powered Pragyan rover – which made its mark on the Moon late last night with ISRO declaring ‘India takes a walk on the Moon’ – will slow down as this is the extent of the ‘sunlight cycle’ on the lunar surface.
As a matter of fact, September 12, 1959, Russia, then known as the USSR, became the first country to achieve a successful lunar landing. This was a hard-landed spacecraft but the country managed to soft-land seven years later in 1966.
In 1966, the US soft-landed on the moon a few months after Russia. The US already has 11 soft landings which is the most in the world. That’s not all, US is the only country in the world to land twelve people on the moon through six space missions.
In 2013, China became the third country to land on the moon.
The Rs 600 crore Chandrayaan-3 mission was launched on July 14 on board the Launch Vehicle Mark-III (LVM-3) rocket and took 41 days to reach its destination.
India’s successful moon mission is not just India’s alone…this success belongs to all off humanity, and it will help moon missions by other countries in the future,” PM Modi said. “We can all aspire for the moon and beyond.

Great message of Karbala, Editorial 31 July 2023.

Great message of Karbala

The battle of Karbala has given message to humanity forever. It  bears an intrinsic message for all human beings of all times to uplift the human spirit beyond short-sighted materialistic pursuits and establish a just and equitable order in society.

The moral message of Karbala is relevant for all times .Live  and die with an honor and respect and don’t accept injustice on any condition. Imam Hussein a.s. once said that the authorities in Kufa had given him only two options — humiliation or death. He carried on to say, ‘And we do not accept humiliation’. Dying for the cause “Islam” is martyrdom and a great honor.

As a matter of fact, Every year, in the month of Muharram, millions of Muslims (both Shias and Sunnis) mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a.S), his family and friends. Some do it to the highest level of emotional and sentimental state and others equally feel the pain of agony experienced by the martyrs.

It is heart refreshing that When people gather to recall and cry over the brutality meted out to Imam Hussain (a.s) , his family and followers, it unconsciously imbues a profound impact on one’s character and thinking. The beauty of this pain that moves a soul to tears not only softens the heart but enhances the virtues of empathy, compassion and humanity.

Pages of history bear witness to the fortitude, courage and determination of scores of warriors and fighters who have left indelible marks on the canvas of bravery but no battle can match Karbala in its message of justice and peace.

We need to live a life of justice and respect humanity then only we can proudly say we are implementing message of Karbala in our lives.

Muharram Significance, Editorial 24 July 2023

Muharram Significance

Muharram has dawned.

Muḥarram (Arabic: ٱلْمُحَرَّم) (fully known as Muharram ul Haram) is the first month of the Islamic calendar. It is one of the four sacred months of the year when warfare is forbidden. It is held to be the second holiest month after Ramadan.

We are well aware that tenth day of Muharram is known as Ashura. Better known as part of the Mourning of Muharram, Shia Muslims mourn the tragedy of Karbala in which Imam Hussain ( As) along with companions were martyred.

Shia Muslims hold many events to offer condolences to Imam Husain ( As). and to honor the martyrs by prayer, reading supplications, and holding charity events.

Karbala teaches us: Never support injustice and oppression no matter how powerful the oppressor might be.

The objective of all believers should be to please Almighty Allah. Imam Hussain ( AS)  said in one of his speeches that the only objective of the Prophet’s Holy Household (peace be upon them) is to please Allah. Whenever he saw family members martyred, he would utter: “It’s bearable only because Allah is its witness.

It is heartening to note that

Muharram is the month in which justice rose against injustice and truth stood up against falsehood and proved that in the course of history, the truth has always triumphed over falsehood.

Muharram as a month preaches us love, kindness and tolerable. The battle of Karbala that took place in thr month of Muharram changed the course of human history and gave eternal message of justice and preserving human values. The need of the hour is we Muslims and humanity in general learn lessons from Karbala tragedy and follow the path of Justice and kindness.

Uniform Civil Code Debate, Editorial 17 July, 2023

Uniform Civil Code debate

Many a voices across the countries  have often opined that

Uniform Civil Code a need to strengthen the democracy in India. It is also been viewed as iron pillar of secularism.

We need to bear in mind that Uniform Civil Code or UCC is implement personal laws of citizens which apply on all citizens equally regardless of their religion, gender and sexual orientation. Currently, personal laws of various communities are governed by their religious scriptures.Implementation of a uniform civil code across the nation is one of the contentious promises pursued by India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

We have had historically different communities themselves moving towards Uniform Civil Code and sanity from time to time.

Those who favour Uniform Civil Code in India states its implementation is the need of the hour. For the purpose of equality and equal justice we need Uniform Civil Code. Without uniform civil code some people also try to misuse their personal laws. As we can see the child philosophy some are still governed by their personal laws which is like a playing game with their future. In personal laws women did not get their rights after divorce or at the time of death of husband but with the implementation of Uniform Civil Code they will get their rights, children can have their future bright and even it will also help our country to grow and to develop.

But there are some who oppose Uniform Civil Code.

The main argument against a UCC is that it violates the constitutional freedom to practice the religion of choice which allows religious communities to follow their respective personal laws. For example, Article 25 gives every religious group the right to manage its own affairs.

The need of the hour is to take every angle into consideration before following final opinion on implementation of Uniform Civil Code.

Rising Temperatures. Editorial 19 June 2023

Rising Temperatures

The rise in temperature throughout the world is a matter of serious concern. This will be double blow for both our environment and Agriculture. It is hurting the global food security.

This year has been specially worse indicating high rise in temperature as a result of global climate change.

This year, Average  global temperatures at the start of June were the warmest ever recorded for the period, trouncing previous records by a “substantial margin”, the European Union’s climate monitoring unit said.

“The world has just experienced its warmest early June on record,” Samantha Burgess, deputy director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), said in a statement few days back.

As a matter of fact, Researchers  at the EU’s Copernicus unit reported that the start of June saw global surface air temperatures rise 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels for the first time.

That is the threshold governments said they would try to stay within at a 2015 summit in Paris.

Data and statistics are worrying. According to the data, the daily global average temperature was at or above the 1.5 Celsius threshold between June 7-11, reaching a maximum of 1.69 Celsius above it on June 9.

It is a matter of grim concern that, Earth’s temperature has risen by an average of 0.14° Fahrenheit (0.08° Celsius) per decade since 1880, or about 2° F in total. The rate of warming since 1981 is more than twice as fast: 0.32° F (0.18° C) per decade. The majority of the warming has occurred since 1975, at a rate of roughly 0.15 to 0.20°C per decade.

The rise temperatures which are reality of global climate change hint towards ugly days ahead for world population at large.
