Harisa: A Culinary Bridge Between Kashmir and Persia

  1. Harisa: A Culinary Bridge Between Kashmir and Persia

By Aubaid Akhoon  akhoon.aubaid@gmail.com

Kashmiri Harisa, a beloved winter delight, shares more than just its name with the famous South Iranian Harisa. This hearty dish, known for its thick pottage made of bruised wheat, meat, butter, cinnamon, and aromatic herbs, has a cultural and historical connection that transcends borders.

Culinary Connections
In South Iran, Harisa is still a celebrated mutton recipe today. It’s a culinary masterpiece where bruised wheat is meticulously boiled to the perfect consistency, and then enriched with meat, butter, cinnamon, and fragrant herbs. The artisans behind this dish are known as “Harisa-Paz” or “Harisa-Gar” in Persian-speaking regions.

The intriguing connection between Kashmiri Harisa and its South Iranian counterpart can be traced back to the historical and cultural exchanges facilitated by the Silk Road, which passed through Leh, connecting Persia with Kashmir. Persian-speaking traders, travelers, and rulers undoubtedly played a role in introducing this rich culinary tradition to the Kashmiri people, as they did with many other cultural and culinary customs.

A Glimpse into History
The first historical mention of Harisa can be found in Abu Muhammad Ibn Sayyar’s Arabic cookbook, Kitabul Tabik, Book of Cooking, dating back to the 10th century during the Alsafvid Caliphate of Islam. This dish, with variations in texture, ingredients, and taste, has found its place in the culinary traditions of the Middle East, South Asia, and other Muslim countries, often with slightly different names.

The Historical Roots of Harissa in Kashmir
The rich tapestry of Kashmiri cuisine is interwoven with the centuries-old tradition of savoring Harissa, a hearty winter breakfast dish that has stood the test of time. As the vibrant hues of autumn paint the landscapes of Kashmir, the allure of Harissa awakens, offering not just nourishment for the body but solace for the spirit.

Unlike the fiery pepper pastes of North Africa that share its name, Kashmiri Harissa is a distinct culinary gem, primarily savored in the heart of Srinagar. The city’s historical downtown areas come alive with scores of Harissa establishments, opening their doors around October and continuing to serve this winter delicacy until March. During the harsh winter months, Harissa assumes the role of an essential morning repast for the people of the valley.

The Origins of Harissa’s Journey
The journey of Harissa in Kashmir can be traced back to the 14th century, attributed to the influence of Mirza Hyder Duglat of Yarkand. However, some speculate that its roots extend even further to Central Asia, leaving an indelible mark on Kashmir’s customs, rituals, beliefs, and gastronomic culture. It wasn’t until the Afghan rule of Kashmir that Harissa took its present form and became an indispensable facet of Kashmiri cuisine.

The Artistry Behind Harissa
In the heart of Kashmir, Harissa is a dish that embodies tradition and craftsmanship. Traditionally prepared during the frigid winter, locally referred to as “chillai kalan,” it features mutton and rice flour, often accompanied by Kashmiri bread known as “girda.” The meticulous preparation process begins in the afternoon with the careful selection and chopping of the meat. Around 10 pm, the finely chopped lamb embarks on a slow-cooking journey in a colossal earthen pot.

Simultaneously, a porridge of rice, ideally made from short-grained Kashmiri rice, is meticulously crafted. The cooked rice gracefully melds with the meat, infused with a symphony of spices including fennel seeds, cinnamon, green and black cardamom, cloves, crisply fried Kashmiri shallots, and salt.

Around 1:00 am, the narrow-necked earthen pot is gently sealed, allowing the flavors to meld in harmony. The artisans behind Harissa then take a well-deserved break. As the clock strikes 4 :30 am, the skeletal remains of bones, stripped bare of their meat, are carefully removed. The mixture is either retained in a spacious earthen pot or transferred to a large copper vessel, where it undergoes relentless pounding until it transforms into a sumptuous paste. The climax of the process involves the lavish addition of smoking-hot mustard oil, meticulously kneaded into the blend with a lengthy wooden masher until the desired consistency is achieved. This gastronomic masterpiece is then portioned onto plates, garnished with seasoned mustard oil, and served with the indigenous bread, girda.

The Joyous Experience of Harissa
A serving of Harissa in Kashmir is not complete without a mutton kebab and “methi,” a finely minced amalgamation of a sheep’s entrails simmered in ghee and fenugreek. Those fortunate enough to secure their portion by 10 am at one of the ancient city establishments may even savor the golden-brown crust  “phuher,” “Harisa Phur in Kashmiri”  gently scraped from the pot’s base, a cherished delicacy among both the young and the old.

Embracing Tradition in Modern Times
While modern cafes in the vicinity have also embraced the allure of Harissa, seamlessly incorporating it into their menus, the authentic charm of partaking in this culinary delight amidst the cobbled streets of downtown Srinagar on a brisk winter morning remains unparalleled.

Bottom line:
Harissa in Kashmir transcends the realm of mere sustenance; it emerges as an indelible fragment of history and culture, instilling warmth and camaraderie in the hearts of the valley’s denizens. Its preparation stands as an art form, a labor of love passed down through generations. As the wintry chill envelops Kashmir, the redolent essence of Harissa drifts through the vibrant bazaars, serving as a poignant reminder of a time-honored tradition that has persevered through the ages.

Kokernag Martyrs Tribute, 30 September 2023

Kokernag Martyrs Tribute
In the highest example of sacrifice for nation recently in an encounter at Gadool Kokernag in South Kashmir three top security officers were martyred along with more security personnel.
The encounter with terrorists continued for many days and few hardcore terrorists were also killed.
As a matter of fact, Major Ashish Dhonchak was one of three Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police officers martyred in action during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on the intervening night of September 12-13. The encounter broke out in the Kokernag forest area of Anantnag. Major Dhonchak was part of the joint operation team of the Indian Army and Kashmir South Zone police.
The other two officers who lost their lives are Colonel Manpreet Singh and DSP Humayun Bhat. The Army had received specific intelligence about the presence of two terrorists in Koernag village.
Colonel Manpreet Singh had completed 17 years of service in the Indian Army and was known for his unconventional approach and cordial relations with locals. For his service to the force, Singh was awarded with the prestigious Sena Medal for Gallantry in 2021.
34-year-old Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhat was the youngest among the three police and army officials who lost their lives in an encounter with terrorists at Kashmir’s Anantnag on Wednesday, September 13.
DSP Bhat, after being shot by terrorists, had made a video call to this wife, Fatima, where he told her to take care of their two-month-old infant since he believed he would not make it out of the action alive, as per a report by India Today.
The nation is indebted to the Kokernag Martyrs who laid their lives for integrity and security of Bharat with the will to crush the terror and violence.

Embers to Flames by Leena Thampi, Book review

Embers to flames by Leena Thampi – A must read poetic book
Review By Rameez Makhdoomi
Embers to flames by Renowned South Indian Author Leena Thampi is a must read. It is a collection of more than 5 dozen poignant poems focusing on women, their dreams and aspirations.
This spins webs between nature, human love, and spiritual connections.
The writer has used a very soft and yet impressive language to connote her message.
As the Prologue of the book suggests Poems of Leena Thampi in the ” “Embers To  Flames” are grounded in the diverse mysteries of the world.
Leena Thampi through her strokes of pen has brilliantly articulated the sufferings , strengths and weakness of women.
Born in Jammu and Brought up in Delhi and settled in her South Indian roots. The book lexicon gives idea of long journey of experiences travelled by Leena Thampi .
In her Poem Creator she pays a brilliant tribute to the universal creator God.
‘Deja Vu’ her poem in the book Embers to Flames has these awesome lines :
” I never had to Impress you
You never had to impress me”
Eight billion people and you feel like home, There’s something about eternity, don’t roam, Uncanny synchronicities  exist in us .
Her book has quite romantic moments as well when she writes; I am swallowed in an abyss of love ,you keep the naughty girl alive in me.
Leena Thampi has conveyed the idea of humanity in a very subtle manner in the book without sounding of any complaint tone or note .
“Dust to Dust” poem gives beautiful description of otherwise sad episode of death which needs to be applauded .She’s given a new twist to death poems.
The poem titled”Written with Fire ” is one of my personal favorites.
Leena Thampi has at every step shone like a lamp of intellect in her Journey as an author and Embers to Flames is a beautiful example of the same ,and it’s her fourth book.
With an expert sense of language and narrative, this intrepid poet cranks her high beams to rummage ‘humanity’s basement, the murk inside the mammalian heart’ and unearths each dark, radiant truth.
Embers to Flames is definitely a must read . A book in which Leena Thampi has ticked all boxes .There’s no doubt she’s written it with fire.
She Dips into the ink of ashes and writes her own fire into existence.

A Humble Plea: Celebrating Kashmiri Marriages in Simplicity for the Betterment of Our Community

  • A Humble Plea: Celebrating Kashmiri Marriages in Simplicity for the Betterment of Our Community
Aubaid Ahmad Akhoon
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” – Leonardo da Vinci
As the summer sun relinquishes its fiery grip on the beautiful valleys of Kashmir, a unique trend has emerged this year. With scorching temperatures making traditional summer weddings a challenge, many Kashmiri families have wisely chosen to delay their marriage ceremonies, opting instead for the cooler months of September to November. This shift not only brings respite from the heat but also offers a valuable lesson in celebrating love and togetherness with simplicity.
Kashmir, often described as “Paradise on Earth,” has long been renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality. The grandeur of Kashmiri weddings, with their rich traditions, elaborate rituals, and opulent feasts, is equally well-known. However, the soaring temperatures in recent summers have taken their toll, making these celebrations more about extravagance than the love and unity they represent.
This change in wedding timing provides a timely opportunity to reflect on the essence of marriage ceremonies. The common message to the public, both in Kashmir and beyond, should resonate with the idea of embracing simplicity and shunning extravagance.
“The greatest step towards a life of simplicity is to learn to let go.” – Steve Maraboli
First and foremost, extravagant weddings often lead to financial strain for families. The pressure to host a lavish event, with all the bells and whistles, can burden families with debt for years to come. By choosing a more straightforward and economical celebration, couples and their families can start their married life on a stronger financial footing.
Furthermore, the environmental impact of extravagant weddings cannot be ignored. The excess waste, energy consumption, and carbon footprint generated by large-scale events are detrimental to the fragile ecosystems of Kashmir and the planet at large. As stewards of this exquisite region, we have a responsibility to protect its natural beauty for generations to come.
Let us not forget the emotional toll that extravagant weddings can take as well. The stress and anxiety associated with planning and executing a lavish affair can overshadow the joy of the occasion. By simplifying the celebration, couples can focus on what truly matters – their love and commitment to one another.
In the spirit of celebrating Kashmiri weddings during the cooler months, let us embrace a renewed sense of purpose. Let us prioritize love over luxury, unity over opulence, and simplicity over extravagance. By doing so, we honor the traditions and values that make Kashmiri culture unique while also safeguarding our environment and our financial well-being.
“Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.” – Coco Chanel
The message is clear: It’s time to rekindle the true spirit of Kashmiri weddings by making them more about love, togetherness, and shared moments of joy. Let us cherish the memories we create, not the extravagance we display. In doing so, we will pave the way for a brighter future filled with meaningful and sustainable celebrations.
Additional Benefits for the Community:
Financial Stability: Extravagant weddings often result in financial burdens not only for the immediate families but also for the community at large. When families overspend on weddings, they may need financial assistance from relatives or community members, diverting resources from more essential needs.
Community Development: By practicing frugality in weddings, families can allocate resources toward community development initiatives such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. These investments can uplift the entire community and contribute to its progress.
Social Equality: Extravagant weddings can inadvertently create disparities within the community. Those who cannot afford lavish celebrations may feel marginalized or pressured to go into debt. Encouraging modest weddings fosters social equality, where all members can participate equally.
Cultural Preservation: The essence of Kashmiri culture lies in its traditions and values. By simplifying weddings, we can better preserve these cultural aspects, ensuring they are passed down to future generations intact.
Environmental Responsibility: A focus on eco-friendly weddings aligns with the global movement toward sustainability. By reducing waste and minimizing the carbon footprint of weddings, the community can contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for everyone.
Social Cohesion: When the community collectively values and practices simplicity in weddings, it fosters a sense of togetherness. Such shared values create stronger bonds among community members, enhancing social cohesion and harmony.
Education and Empowerment: Resources saved from extravagant weddings can be channeled into educational programs, scholarships, and skill development initiatives. This empowers the youth and ensures they have brighter prospects for the future.
Philanthropy and Charity: Wedding celebrations can also be an opportunity for charitable acts. Families can allocate a portion of their wedding budget to support local charities or sponsor less fortunate community members in need.
Mental Health and Well-being: Simplifying weddings can reduce the stress and anxiety associated with planning and financing extravagant events. Better mental health within the community leads to happier and more productive individuals.
Setting a Positive Example: When prominent members of the community choose simplicity over extravagance, they set a positive example for others to follow. This can lead to a ripple effect where more families adopt similar practices.
In conclusion, embracing simplicity in weddings benefits not only individual families but the entire community. It fosters financial stability, social equality, cultural preservation, environmental responsibility, and social cohesion. By making conscious choices to avoid extravagance, we pave the way for a stronger, more united, and prosperous community that can collectively address its challenges and build a brighter future for all.

“The Double-Edged Sword: How Social Media Has Transformed Our Lives”
Umais Mudasir Farooqi
umaismudasir18@gmail.com
Social media plays a vital role in our lives today. When we compare today’s era with the past, we observe a stark contrast. In the past, before the advent of technology, life was simple, tranquil, and clean. However, in today’s world, we see a more complex society that emphasizes advancement and modernization. The increase in technological advancements has brought about significant changes in our society, with social media being a major driver of this transformation.

Life before social media was undoubtedly pure and simple, but it was also somewhat isolated from the world’s current events. People led good lives, but there was a lack of exposure to the broader world. Their knowledge remained static, and they were often unaware of the realities beyond their immediate surroundings. Many relied on superstitions and irrational beliefs, creating their own mythologies. While some were literate and could discern right from wrong, others followed irrational beliefs.

The advent of social media brought about a global revolution that impacted the lives of every individual. People became more connected and began to lead more organized lives. It also had a significant influence on mental health, reforming and renovating the way people thought. As people became familiar with social media, they started craving more technological advancements to improve the world further.

Today, people have become heavily reliant on social media. It has both positive and negative impacts, depending on its usage. When utilized for the betterment of society, social media can be a powerful tool for education. Many students prefer online learning through social media platforms, and numerous channels provide educational content. Social media has made it easier for remote areas to access business opportunities through communication and transportation.

Moreover, social media has not only revolutionized education but also transformed the way we consume news and information. It has become a primary source of news for many, shaping public opinion and driving social and political discourse. However, it has also given rise to concerns about the spread of misinformation and “echo chambers” where people are exposed only to like-minded views.

However, social media also has its limitations and drawbacks. Excessive use can negatively affect mental and physical health. Addiction to social media can lead to a loss of focus on personal goals and priorities. It’s crucial to recognize these negative aspects and use social media responsibly.

In the context of businesses, social media has revolutionized marketing and customer engagement. Companies utilize various social media platforms to reach a global audience, promote their products and services, and engage with customers in real-time. This has opened up new avenues for entrepreneurship and created a more level playing field for small businesses to compete with larger corporations.

As Aubaid Akhoon, the renowned columnist, once said, “As we navigate the digital landscape of the 21st century, let us remember that social media is a double-edged sword, capable of connecting hearts and minds, but also of blurring the lines between reality and illusion. Its true power lies not in the platform itself, but in how we choose to wield it—either to illuminate the path to progress or to deepen the shadows of distraction. Let’s use it as a tool to enlighten our minds, connect with others, and nurture our society’s growth, all while preserving the gems of wisdom we encounter along the way.”

Education plays a significant role in how individuals use social media. It’s not just about accumulating information; it should also involve character development and life-building experiences. We must apply the knowledge we gain from social media to make a positive impact on society by changing negative behaviors and attitudes.

Bottom line: social media provides a platform for self-expression and connection. To make the most of it, we should use it responsibly and contribute positively to our society. Just like a valuable gem, we should preserve and utilize this resource wisely. Social media has reshaped our world in profound ways, and its influence continues to evolve as technology advances and society adapts to these changes.

Choosing Careers Wisely: The Modern Kashmiri Youth Dilemma”

“Choosing Careers Wisely: The Modern Kashmiri Youth Dilemma”
Aubaid Ahmad Akhoon
Introduction: The vibrancy of a nation often rests upon the shoulders of its youth. Their education and employment opportunities are the lifeblood that sustains a nation’s vigor, allowing it to shine on the global stage. A society’s health is mirrored in the state of its youth; disheartened and anxious young individuals can hinder societal advancement. Therefore, it is imperative for nations to prioritize the well-being and prospects of their youth to thrive and progress.
In the picturesque realm of Kashmir, where nature’s beauty meets a rich cultural tapestry, the youth are brimming with immense talent and qualifications. However, opportunities have, at times, remained elusive. Despite their unwavering determination and dedication, many of them continue to grapple with unemployment and limited prospects, leaving them vulnerable to various social challenges. It is our collective duty to take proactive measures, carving a path towards their happiness, success, and growth, thereby unlocking their potential for the betterment of the region.
Kashmir, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and historical significance, has faced its own set of challenges over the years. The region’s youthful population, bubbling with promise and untapped potential, should not be left behind in the pursuit of progress and prosperity. This article delves into the unique challenges confronted by the youth in Kashmir and underscores the critical importance of empowering them for a brighter future. We will explore the formidable barriers they face and propose innovative solutions that can not only harness their latent potential but also contribute significantly to the overall development of Kashmir.
An unexamined life is not worth living.” – Socrates
Nestled within the enchanting valleys of Kashmir, where the beauty of nature knows no bounds, it becomes crucial to examine the prevailing aspirations of the region’s youth. For generations, the dream of securing a government job has been deeply etched into the cultural fabric of Kashmir. However, it’s time to reassess these aspirations and explore the multifaceted opportunities that lie beyond the realm of government employment.
 The Obsession with Government Jobs
Kashmiri society has long held government jobs in high regard. The promise of job security, a stable income, and the prestige associated with government positions have made them the ultimate goal for many. Young men and women invest their valuable time and energy in competitive exams, interviews, and navigating the bureaucratic maze in pursuit of these coveted positions.
 Challenges in the Private Sector:
While the allure of government jobs is undeniable, it is essential to acknowledge the challenges that come with this fixation. The private sector, often overlooked, offers a plethora of opportunities for the enterprising youth of Kashmir. Unlike the limited vacancies in government positions, private sector roles often outnumber job seekers, providing a broader spectrum of choices.
• Promoting Entrepreneurship: Encourage and support young entrepreneurs by providing easy access to funding, mentorship programs, and incubation centers. Entrepreneurship can create job opportunities and diversify the economic landscape.
• Skill Development: Establish vocational training centers and skill development programs tailored to the needs of the private sector. This will bridge the gap between the skills youth possess and the skills demanded by the job market.
• Government-Private Partnerships: Foster collaborations between the government and private sector to create job opportunities. Public-private partnerships can drive economic growth and provide employment avenues.
• Promote Startups: Create a favorable environment for startups by reducing bureaucratic hurdles, offering tax incentives, and providing access to co-working spaces. Startups can become significant job creators.
• Diversify Industries: Encourage the diversification of industries beyond traditional sectors. Invest in emerging sectors such as technology, renewable energy, tourism, and agriculture, which can provide diverse employment options.
 Dispelling the Heavy Workload Myth
One common misconception is that private sector jobs entail an overwhelming workload. While it’s true that these roles can be demanding, they also come with substantial benefits. Competitive salaries, enhanced growth prospects, and exposure to a diverse range of experiences make the private sector an appealing alternative.
• Work-Life Balance: Emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance in the private sector. Promote flexible work arrangements and stress management programs.
• Career Advancement: Showcase success stories of individuals who started in the private sector and went on to achieve great career heights. Highlight the potential for growth and advancement.
 Addressing the Rising Unmarried Ratio
A concerning trend in Kashmir is the rising unmarried ratio, where eligible youth find it increasingly challenging to secure life partners. One contributing factor is the preference among parents for government-employed sons-in-law. However, it’s essential to broaden our perspectives. Rizk (provision) is in the hands of Allah, and the occupation of the groom should not overshadow his character.
• Embracing Diversity in Marriage Prospects
In matters of matrimony, it’s time to shift our focus from government jobs to the character and qualities of potential life partners. A groom’s worth should not be solely determined by his job title but by his values, integrity, and the love and respect he offers. Empowering our daughters to choose partners based on these virtues can lead to more dignified and fulfilling marriages.
 Government’s Role in Job Creation
Amidst the pursuit of government jobs, it’s essential for the government to recognize the aspirations of the youth. The private sector in Kashmir is facing significant challenges, with limited job opportunities. The youth of Kashmir are often driven to despair, grappling with unemployment, and some even turn to destructive coping mechanisms.
• Invest in Infrastructure: Develop infrastructure that supports industries in the private sector, such as technology parks, industrial zones, and logistics hubs.
• Incentivize Job Creation: Offer incentives to private companies that create jobs, such as tax breaks, subsidies, and grants for hiring local talent.
• Promote Remote Work: Encourage remote work opportunities, which can bridge geographical gaps and provide access to a broader job market.
“Create jobs for others by using your experience in the private sector.”
Governments play a vital role in fostering economic growth and job creation. It’s imperative for policymakers to invest in and promote industries, entrepreneurship, and skill development to expand employment opportunities. Initiatives that encourage and support the establishment of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can provide a lifeline for the unemployed youth of Kashmir.
 Combatting the Menace of Drug Abuse and Suicidal Tendencies
The rising unemployment rate in Kashmir has led to dire consequences, with many unemployed youth succumbing to the dark abyss of drug abuse and even contemplating suicide. It is an urgent issue that cannot be ignored. The government, in addition to creating jobs, must prioritize mental health support and rehabilitation programs to help those struggling with substance abuse and despair.
• Mental Health Support: Establish accessible mental health services and helplines to provide support and counseling to those struggling with depression and despair.
• Community Outreach: Engage community leaders, schools, and religious institutions in raising awareness about the importance of mental health and seeking help when needed.
• Skill-Based Programs: Introduce skill-based programs and recreational activities to engage the youth positively and divert their focus away from destructive behaviors.
Tailpiece:
“Happiness depends upon ourselves.” – Aristotle
It’s high time for the youth of Kashmir to expand their horizons and explore opportunities beyond the traditional pursuit of government jobs. While these jobs provide stability, the private sector offers a wider array of experiences and competitive remuneration. Additionally, in matters of marriage, let us remember the words of Plato: “At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet.” May love and character be the guiding principles in the pursuit of happiness and fulfillment for the youth of Kashmir.
In this journey of self-discovery and empowerment, it’s essential to remember that life’s true treasures often lie beyond the conventional, waiting to be uncovered by those who dare to explore. The government must take active steps to address unemployment, mental health, and substance abuse issues plaguing the youth, ensuring a brighter and more hopeful future for Kashmir.

India’s Marvel to Moon

India’s Marvel to Moon
A pride moment for me as Indian
By Faisal Khankashi
The Indian journey to moon with success has nothing short of a fairy tale. It is the result of untiring hard work and efforts of the scientists of this country. Whole nation is ecstatic after success of Moon mission of India. I as a kashmiri and Indian feel proud on the achievements of our nation  and salute the resolve and hardworking of the scientists of our country.
It is a matter of great joy that The Lander Module (LM) of the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) third lunar mission Chandrayaan-3, launched on July 14, made a successfully landing on the Moon’s surface on August 23, making India only the fourth country after the erstwhile USSR, the U.S. and China to make a soft landing on the lunar surface.
It is the result of utmost dedication shown by our leadership since independence and also dynamic efforts given by the  Prime Minister Narendra Modi lead Government to ensure that India becomes the first nation to reach the South pole axis of Moon and attains a global superpower status.
The remarks of esteemed Prime Minister Narendra Modi summed up the mood of entire nation.
Addressing ISRO, PM Modi congratulated the scientists and said, “No country has reached the South Pole of the Moon before. With the hard work of our scientists, we have reached there. India’s successful Moon mission is not just India’s alone…This success belongs to all of humanity.”
PM Narendra Modi also said that the successful landing on the Moon is the dawn of a new India. “When we see such historic moments it makes us very proud. This is the dawn of new India,” PM Modi said.
Every nook and corner of India after the successful mission is much confident that soon the nation of Bharat would be a global superpower.
The nation of Bharat is rightly lauding its heroes.
A recent video which was quite heartwarming showed that
ISRO chairman S Somanath being welcomed on an Indigo flight has won people over. The video shows Indigo cabin crew Pooja Shah announcing how they are extremely happy to have S Somanath with them on the flight. Whole ISRO team is being saluted by the entire country. The brain behind India’s ambitious moon mission is S Somanath. Besides, P Veeramuthuvel is the project director for India’s latest lunar touchdown, with Kalpana K as the deputy project director.
The successful moon journey has given new flight to dreams of India of conquering the space.
As a matter of great pride,
India launched its first spacecraft dedicated to studying the sun, building on a month of historic successes for the country’s civil space efforts.
The spacecraft, called Aditya-L1, launched from Sriharikota, an island off the Bay of Bengal, at 11:50 a.m. Saturday local time (2:20 am ET). And it’s headed to a parking spot in orbit about 930,000 miles (1.5 million kilometers) from Earth.
The successful liftoff of Aditya-L1 comes less than two weeks after India’s space agency, the Indian Space Research Organization, made history by landing its Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on the lunar surface. The achievement made India only the fourth nation in the world — and the second in the 21st century — to land a vehicle safely on the moon.
I as a youth of Jammu and Kashmir urge my people especially the youth to study hard and excel in scientific world with vigor so that India becomes global leader and we the youth of Kashmir contribute much to our nation  building.
The nature of success achieved by the moon mission of India has made it sure that India can as a nation achieve anything and nothing is impossible for us as country.

Technology with Impacts

Technology With Impacts
Farheen Wani
All of the biggest technological inventions created by man – the airplane, the automobile, the computer – says little about his intelligence but speaks volumes about his laziness. –( Mark Kennedy)
Society gives purpose to technology, for technology is made to help man—for better or for worse. From the moment man picked up the first tool in his hand to aid him in his task, to where he is today with all the advancement he has accomplished, technology has always been there at man’s disposal.
The symbiotic union of society and technology has led the world to improvements beyond expectation, and yet, the future still holds an untapped growth potential, especially in the area of digital technology.
Digital technology gives birth to making our world reachable with its augmenting information highways like the Internet and the net. Across it, we have reinvented the way we interact and communicate with emails, conference calls, and social media apps, among others. It has improved the lives of students and teachers with digitization in the education sector. It has saved thousands upon thousands of lives with advanced machinery and innovations that have been introduced to the health industry.
We could go on and on, but the baseline is that digital technology and society are in this synergistic relationship that will get stronger further into the future as we dive deeper into the 21st century.
Technology is around us everywhere, from simple devices like our smartphones, laptop, and TV to background tech that we don’t notice. It isn’t taking off anywhere anytime shortly, we hold to get familiarized with it. Once we get the hang of manipulating technology in a privileged manner, it can enhance our vitalities.
On the other hand, tech can also make our lives harder. Whether tech has a positive or negative effect on our lives, it all depends on how we use it.
Positives Impacts of Technology on Our Lives
Technology has, without a doubt, made all our lives easier over the past two decades. From connecting with people across the globe from the comfort of your home to running a full-fledged business without a physical space, technology has impacted our lives positively in several ways.
1. New technology continues to come out faster than we can keep up with. The purpose is to boost business and make the daily management of enterprises more systematic, structured, and successful.
Tech has boosted businesses by improving the hiring process, error-free collection and analysis of business data, and better communication with clients and partners.
Additionally, tech has also changed the way we work remotely for the better. It is now commonplace for people to work from home. However, certain tech, like the cloud, has made it easier than ever to work whether you’re at the office or not.
2. Advancements in tech have made it easier for more people to access the internet, resulting in online shopping being more popular now than ever.
Currently, most people prefer to shop online without leaving the house because of its sheer convenience. Instead of wasting hours in the shopping mall, tech makes shopping simple. A few of the benefits of online shopping include cheaper products, saved time, fuel, and energy, easier-to-find items, a wider variety online, and no added pressure.
3. One of the most downplayed areas of technology that has dramatically improved over the past few years is education. Technology has been beneficial for those in the business world, but it has impacted education in a big way.
A few examples include the availability of online courses, accessibility of web seminars, and unlimited online resources for research. Before tech, you’d have to physically go to class, attend a meeting or go to the library to do research. Now, education is easier for everyone, no matter where you live. Online classes have made it possible for all students to enroll without leaving their homes.
Today, you can find several great sites for free college courses online, such as Udemy—a fantastic website that offers thousands of free and paid-for courses to choose from. Whether you want to create virtual reality games or become a yoga instructor, Udemy has a course that’s perfect for you.
In terms of technology, Udemy also offers a wide variety of great tech-related online courses. The categories available range from IT hardware and software to operating systems and network and security. So tech can help you master your chosen path and possibly broaden your career opportunities.
4 . Most technology these days is created to improve businesses and generate profit. However, tech can also make our daily lives so much better.
Tech has made an immensely positive impact on the daily lives of everyday people. Some positive examples include improvements in the transportation system.
Negative Impacts  of Technology on Our Lives
As much as we appreciate technology for the convenience it brought to our lives, several aspects of it have impacted our society negatively in more ways than one.
1. As technology advances, we are connected now more than ever, and it has become a huge part of our lives. That’s why technology negatively impacts physical health.
These physical health problems can be severe. Nevertheless, you can avoid most of them by creating healthy tech habits instead of bad ones.
Apart from creating unhealthy sleeping patterns, electronic devices can cause digital eye strain, poor posture, and increased inactivity, leading to health problems like obesity.
Taking regular breaks from these devices can help you avoid these health problems. You can find a range of apps that remind you to take frequent breaks.
2 . Job loss and downsizing are two significant adverse effects of technology. Because of advances in the tech field such as AI integration, automating and accomplishing tasks have become easy. In this day and age, most companies need to stay up to date with the latest technology, but in the process, low-skilled employees, like factory workers and cashiers, will be replaced.
Machines can now carry out tasks that only humans could do so far, which creates a massive shortage of jobs. The bottom line is that people aren’t necessarily needed for work tasks anymore because of how efficient tech has become.
3. Technology grows incredibly quickly, so the digital devices and gadgets that we use have a short lifespan and become outdated in a matter of months.
Since these devices are so important in our daily lives, we need to maintain and upgrade them regularly. Besides maintenance and upgrades, these pieces of tech may just become outdated and pushed aside by newer, more advanced versions.
Technology Is a Boon and Bane to Society
Overall, tech is amazing, and it has changed the world for the better, from improving our daily lives to building better businesses. The majority of the adverse effects of technology stem from its misuse.
The way we choose to utilize tech can help or harm ourselves and others. Instead of blaming the tool, we need to use technology in a healthy, more disciplined way. By doing this, technology can continue to benefit our lives.

“Safeguarding the soul of Kashmir: Karnah’s Prized Forests

” Safeguarding the soul of Kashmir: Karnah’s Prized Forests”
Suman lone
In the northernmost region of India lies a mesmerizing land of unparalleled beauty – Kashmir. Adorned with snow-capped mountains, lush green valleys, and pristine lakes, this heavenly abode has earned the title of “Paradise on Earth.” Among the gems of Kashmir is a quaint and picturesque district called Karnah, where nature flourishes in all its splendor, thanks to the relentless efforts of the forest officials who diligently protect its green treasure.
Karnah, nestled near the Line of Control (LOC), holds a prominent place in the heart of Jammu and Kashmir. Covering an expansive forest area of 20,230 square kilometers, approximately 19.95% of the region’s total geographical expanse, this district is a haven for biodiversity. The significance of these forests extends far beyond their enchanting appearance; they play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance, safeguarding against floods and natural calamities, and providing solace to those seeking refuge from the bustle of modern life.
In an era where people increasingly embrace organic and natural alternatives for a healthy lifestyle, the therapeutic value of nature cannot be overstated. The verdant forests of Karnah offer respite from the demands of a hectic life, providing a sanctuary for rejuvenation and mental peace. Imagine a vacation in a resort surrounded by this emerald treasure, where the melodies of chirping birds serenade your soul, and the gentle rustling of leaves soothes your spirit. Truly, nature has a way of healing our weary minds and souls.
Kashmir’s beauty is unparalleled, and Karnah stands as a testament to its magnificence. The district boasts a diverse array of trees, each adding to its allure. The forest officials of Karnah work tirelessly to preserve this breathtaking landscape and safeguard its rich biodiversity. Among these dedicated officials, Shamus ul Haq deserves special mention. His unwavering commitment to conservation has earned him recognition from the Forest Department of Jammu and Kashmir, a well-deserved acknowledgment of his exceptional contributions.
Living in a border area, Karnah faces its unique set of challenges. Crossfire and skirmishes in the region can brutally damage the precious forests. However, the forest officials remain undeterred and continue to protect this green treasure with unwavering vigilance. Their efforts are not limited to mere monitoring; they actively engage in afforestation programs to replenish any lost greenery and promote sustainable practices.
The forest officials’ relentless dedication to safeguarding the green treasure of Karnah is a testament to their love for nature and the desire to pass on this gift to future generations. They understand that nature’s bounty is not only a source of scenic beauty but also a lifeline for the entire ecosystem and a repository of our cultural heritage.
As we admire the beauty of Karnah’s forests, let us also realize the immense responsibility that falls upon each of us. It is not just the duty of the forest officials but also of every individual to protect and preserve the natural world. Together, we can ensure that future generations will have the opportunity to witness the same enchanting landscapes that captivate our hearts today.
In the words of the famous Columnist of our Kashmir Mr. Aubaid Akhoon  “Nature’s symphony is played in the pristine forests of Karnah, where every tree stands as a testament to resilience and grace. Let us be the guardians of this green treasure, for it is not just a part of our land; it is the very soul of Kashmir.”
As we celebrate the efforts of the forest officials, let us also pledge to join hands in their noble cause. Together, we can create a harmonious symphony of nature’s beauty that resonates for eternity in the heart of Karnah and beyond.

Zaheer Jan A one man army for children with special needs in J&K.

Zaheer Jan A one man army for children with special needs in J&K.
Rameez Makhdoomi.
Special needs or disabled children feel most let down in our society due to unfavorable circumstances for them in all the spheres of life.
There are more than 1.2 lakh disabled children in J&K of which 83,567 are school-going others don’t attend schools because most of the private schools didn’t provide them admissions.
Kashmir-based Child & Disability Rights Activist, parent Advocate and Paediatric occupational Therapist  Zaheer Jan is like a one man army campaigning advocacy  for the right to decent inclusive education of the children with special needs. He is fighting against all odds to get these children their due in private schools. He is also trying his level best to get these children to get their due in elite schools who often show hegemony and reluctant approach while admitting these students.
Zaheer Jan laments the fact that After abrogation of Article 370, all central laws are applicable to J&K and as per RPWD Act 2016 all private schools or Govt schools should allow children with special need in mainstream.
Zaheer Jan has emerged as an icon for the persons with special needs he believes as a Rehab professionals this is our duty to help parents to provide them their  basic rights and to aware them of their rights.
He founded the organization Save the Destitute Foundation and I am its Chairman.  The aims and objectives of the organization are working for Child and disability rights , Capacity building and  Advocacy for persons with disabilities,  inclusive education,  disasters and health issues.  We have different areas of burning concern to work in our organization . When we saw an organization there was no awareness in Kashmir related to inclusive education,  Early intervention, job policy for PWDs and we organised many conferences and workshops to create awareness on same and till date we organised 6 conference and 2000 stakeholders attended our conferences. The role played by Zaheer Jan in uplifting the people with special needs is commendable. He said his organization provide 8000 Heath care kits among Asha workers, Health care workers and other NGO volunteers in all district in kashmir.
He started an online petition in change.org related to inclusive education for cwsn and 1809 people, parents across India signed his petition and after that Directorate of school education Kashmir as well as jammu issued circular not to denial of admission to children with special needs. He said these orders only on papers on grounds nothing happens schools still deny admissions to cwsn and doesn’t implement RPWD Act 2016 and Director school orders. His appreciable role in getting people with special needs is a morale boosting example for the society in these tough times.
