He talks on diverse issues faced by the Special  needs people with News Kashmir.

” In 2011 the population of Jammu and Kashmir persons with special needs was around 4 lac,now it would be much more as we don’t have exact data on it  .

When I saw persons with special needs especially children facing lot of problems,  I founded the organization Save the Destitute Foundation and I am its Chairman.  The aims and objectives of the organization are  Child and disability rights , Capacity building and  Advocacy for persons with disabilities,  inclusive education,  disasters and health issues.  We have different areas of burning concern to work in our organization   . When we saw as organization there is no awareness in Kashmir related to inclusive education, early intervention, job policy and we thus organised many conferences and workshops to create awareness on same,” States Zaheer Jan.

He observes :” Parents face much different and difficult challenges while fighting for rights of their disabled children . We as organization approached number of schools to provide admission quota rights to children with special needs.  We also wrote to higher authorities .”

Zaheer Jan opines that despite so much efforts in this regard the school responses have been so far been dismal.

Zaheer believes with article 370 abrogation many bright  central laws on persons with special needs  automatically applied on Jammu and Kashmir   . So me , Dr  .

Chintanjeet Kaur ,Mudasir Sahaban wrote to Director School Education and Chief Secretary to implement RPD act admission for children with special needs ,but there was no response  . We then knocked doors of judiciary via PIL and the then Chief Justice JK ordered Government and schools to answer on the points.

The school excuse was that they don’t have accessible building ,educators for same but the court ordered to take full steps to ensure RPD act is implemented in letter and spirit.

Water Borne Diseases Threat

Water Borne Diseases  Threat

News Kashmir Analysis

The recent rains which created a huge flood scare in Kashmir, and water was seen flowing in many areas, came at a time when the valley of Kashmir was grappling with rain deficit.  On that front it is good news  , however the ground reality show that how we have choked Wetlands and flood channels in name of development and construction can any time wreck havoc if large period of rain hits Kashmir and a heavy flooding hits .

The another main  threat to which we need to remain  cautious now in backdrop of these rains is the waterborne diseases  .

After many days of rain, Directorate of Health Services Kashmir has issued an advisory over a possible outbreak of water borne diseases in the valley in view of incessant rains and flash floods .

In the said  advisory, the DHSK has emphasized on hand hygiene and drinking boiled water. The DHSK also advised to wash the food storage containers regularly and chlorinate the tap water for decontamination. For rehydration, the DHSK has advised to use ORS, which can be also made at home by adding 8 tsf of sugar and 1 tsf table salt to a pre boiled litre of water.

Also, The DHSK has asked the CMOs across the valley to activate the Rapid Response Teams in the respective districts and gear up the CHOs for any eventuality.

In a further welcoming move, DHSK also asked the CMOs to lift water samples for testing at Public Health Labs under IDSP programme to ensure minimal occurrence of the disease outbreak.

The expert pulse is that we need to be cautious about Water borne diseases as

Waterborne diseases are conditions (meaning adverse effects on human health, such as death, disability, illness or disorders caused by pathogenic micro-organisms that are transmitted in water. These diseases can be spread while bathing, washing, drinking water, or by eating food exposed to contaminated water.

It is worth mentioning here Majority of water-borne diseases worldwide mainly affect children due to poor hygiene and weak immunity. Most of these diseases are life-threatening. The knowledge of the different types of water-borne diseases has come to the forefront with the advent of globalization over the past few decades. Several pathogenic microorganisms which were previously unknown, have become the focus of major research in this field.

About 844 million people lack even a basic drinking-water service. The hope on ground is that whole humanity fights the waterborne diseases rapidly.

Ghulam Hussain – Brain Behind Unique Brick Lifting Machine

Ghulam Hussain – Brain Behind Unique Brick Lifting Machine

Mir Sabeen Gulrez

It’s not that we use Technology, we live technology.

Quote by Godfrey Reggio.

We are living in 21st Century and technology has overcome us with its new advancements. This has proven right by Ghulam Hussain 40, a carpenter by profession  who has done miracle by unique development of a machine which can lift bricks to the second floor of any structure- whether it’s house or shop or anything. Within a limited time period of just fourty five (45) days he developed this unique concept.

The concept of this machine was in his mind from the day when he thought of the construction of second story of his house. It took him three to four months as the costly expenses of labour was taking his breath away.

Each day he used to think for this machine and  how to develop this unique idea and surprise the valley by his innovation.

On one day he took this initiative and developed this unique machine. While charging minimal wages for uplifting of 24,000 bricks in a day. Hussain charges just Rs 240/- per hour. Which is very cheap and affordable by all.

He developed this unique concept which is working on electricity ,not only electricity option there is another option that we can use generator also as he also has considered those areas which are  affected by electricity.

While talking to News Kashmir Magazine, Hussain told us that, ” Manual work of labourers where they carry bricks on their shoulders always pained  me while I was a carpenter and usually saw this scenario on daily basis”,

This idea working on brick lifting  came to  my mind and  I started working on it. It nearly took me three to four months to develop this unique concept. This was a sigh of relief for labourers as well as for the person who has to invest his earning, he added.

“In a short span of just 45days and with an investment of fifty thousand I was able to develop this unique concept”, Hussain said.

Hussain said, the machine he developed is just 23 feet which can lift the bricks to the second floor of the house, but side by side he is  going to add it more by 30 feets, so that machine can lift the bricks to the third floor.

Further talking to News Kashmir Magazine Hussain said that,

Not only I developed this unique concept I also got famous as the people can’t afford the labour cost and come to me from different districts like Srinagar, Budgam amd Pulwama. People used to approach me for this machine and also workflow of this machine has been increased in the markets.

While suggesting youth he further added that, This machine will help youth  to earn a good source of income on daily basis. Many unemployed youths wanted to earn a good source of income they can come to me as it’s not possible for me to work in every district.

” I am not only earning a good source of income through this machine, but also I am getting a good response from the people after seeing this technology has been introduced in the Kashmir valley. With the advancement of this unique concept  people are also offering the work to me,” Hussain said.

It has been argued that BJP is keen to project Murmu as a symbol of party’s

Applying bag weight policy

Applying bag weight policy

News Kashmir Analysis

The heavy weight of bags of school going children is a matter of serious concern . This is a both health and mental issue for the children.

Throughout the world, It is common these days to see schoolchildren carrying around large, heavy school backpacks. Many are so large, in fact, that one can’t help but wonder whether or not such a heavy backpack or school bag might not only be causing back pain, but could also result in other types of damage, including scoliosis or other spinal deformities. In Kashmir too heavy bags have been a serious issue for the children.

Understanding the serious nature of the issue,

The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) had issued few weeks back  circular instructions to the schools putting a cap on the weight of school bags.

Referring to the revised school bag policy of NCERT, the DSEK in a circular has said that there should be no school bags for kindergarten students while the weight of the school bags for class 1st and 2nd primary should be 1.6 to 2.2 kg while 1.7 to 2.5 kgs for Classes 3rd to 5th primary.

As per the revised guidelines, the weight of a school bag for class 6th and 7th students should be 2 to 3 kg and 2.5 to 4kg for Class 8th students.

“The weight of the school bag for class 9th and 10th should be 2.5kg to 4.5kgs and for class 11th and 12th it should be 3.5kgs to 5kgs,” the circular reads.

The teachers have been put on instructions to take the responsibility of checking the weight of school bags of the students. “Any information about heavy bags should be communicated to the parents,” it reads.

However on the ground zero one still witnesses large number of students carrying heavy weighty bags which is a matter of serious concern  . The fact of matter is to get these much needed circulars and orders applied on the ground zero so that children get much needed relief. The demand from common people is that these orders on weight of bags need to be implemented on ground zero and erring schools in this regard need to be punished  .

Public circles in unison state that the burning issue of heavy weight of school Bags has been a long term  problem with students carrying this weight on their tender shoulders.

Experts also state Children carrying particularly heavy school bags frequently develop a forward head posture, with the body hinging forward at the hips to balance out and compensate for the heavy weight on their backs, thus causing unnatural posture alignment.
