World Earth Day 2024, Editorial 22 April 2024

World Earth Day 2024
Earth is our home. We rely upon it for our existence in many different ways. Its resources feed us and provide the materials of our way of life. Even modest changes to Earth’s systems have had profound influences on human societies and the course of civilization.
Earth Day was founded by American senator Gaylord Nelson in the form of environmental education. This day commenced on April 22, 1970, and today more than 1 billion people in 192 countries of the world are celebrating Earth Day. Earth Day is now a global event each year; it is the largest civic-focused day of action in the world.
Every year earth day has its own theme.
of Earth Day 2024
This year, the event is being celebrated with the theme “Planet vs Plastics”, to raise awareness of the harms of plastic pollution for human and planetary health.
As scientific innovations are taking place around the world, the pace of environmental degradation is also increasing. So to increase awareness about environmental degradation some individuals and institutions have come forward for Good cause.
Mahatma Gandhi once said that “nature has enough resources to fulfil the needs of the human being but it can’t fulfil the greed of the humans”.
Although on the other hand of spectrum, Critics of Earth Day claim that the environmental movement is a middle class, anti-business movement that deals in mainstream conservation politics. It allegedly overlooks the needs of minorities and the poor who are victims of environmental racism and classism.”
We should take all the steps nevertheless to protect put planet earth from all the harms and we should take this firm pledge on World Earth Day. Today it is the burning need of our times to preserve the environment of planet earth and its resources.

Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing the first major election after the abrogation of article 370.
Anantnag–Rajouri Lok Sabha seat is one of the five Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir .
The prestigious seat would go to the polls on May 7, 2024 .
Expert pulse is This constituency has contrasting demographics and shows historical voting patterns.
It is to be noted that decision by the Delimitation Commission to merge the Anantnag constituency with Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu region has added a new dimension to the electoral landscape. This move, viewed by many as an attempt to penetrate with more vigour nationalist feeling in Kashmir valley, underscores the strategic significance of the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency in national politics.
The glimpse of the assembly constituency shows how long , peculiar the seat is:

As a matter of fact, on Thursday 18 April, 2024
Kashmir’s Anantnag town was buzzing with political activity and we saw  many leaders filing their nominations for the Lok Sabha elections. National Conference leader Mian Altaf Ahmad and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, along with seven others, filed nomination papers for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat.
As a matter of fact, mighty Pir Panjal mountain splits the Anantnag constituency, pushing Rajouri and Poonch to the other side. In between is Shopian district, which has been made part of Srinagar parliament seat. For political parties and candidates, travelling from one part of the constituency to the other area for campaigning is a huge challenge.
National Conference candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat Mian Altaf Ahmad few days back  said he is in a “comfortable situation” as he is the most acceptable candidate among the contestants on both sides of the Pir Panjal range.
“I am in a comfortable situation and I feel I am acceptable on both sides — Anantnag-Kulgam as well as Rajouri-Poonch. My assessment might be wrong, but I think the other parties contesting here do not have as much acceptability on both sides,” Ahmad told reporters here while on campaign trail.
The PDP leader and Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is another heavyweight in the seat ,and many affirm that Anantnag– Rajouri could be direct contest between NC and PDP.
Mehbooba Mufti echoed strong words.
This is not the time to boycott,” Mufti said in villages that have in the past seen turnout as low as five percent.
She made an appeal not just for votes but for financial help too. “Come forward and help me with whatever you can – Rs 100, Rs 200,” she said. “When I contested the Parliament elections in 2019, I had 50 lakhs in my account; today I have only Rs 22 lakh.”
We are slated in for an interesting and Exciting contest in Anantnag– Rajouri Loksabha seat.

Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi Exclusive interview, 22 April 2024 issue

Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi Exclusive Interview
Candidate from Srinagar Parliament Seat for National Conference Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi is a noted political leader of Jammu and Kashmir and  a well known religious  cleric succeeding his father Aga syed Mehdi.
As a matter of fact,  Aga syed Ruhullah Mehdi is ex-MLA Budgam as well as a former cabinet minister.
Aga Syed Ruhullah won three times legislative assembly election’s from Budgam constituency.
In an exclusive interview with the News Kashmir, he talks to Farzana Mumtaz and Rameez Makhdoomi.
How do you see the Lok Sabha Election contest from Srinagar?
My focus is on that through my Election campaign I give voice to the voiceless people of Kashmir as post abrogation of Article 370 the voice of masses has been scuttled and oppressed. I want to give platform to that voice of people through my effective Election campaign.
The result would be seen later on ,my priority is a strong Election campaign to give voice to the masses.
How do you see contest with PDP?
Everybody has a right to contest.  I want to also urge on People’s Democratic Party to give through their forceful campaign a strong platform to the voice of people and raise the issues of masses especially there suffocation since past 5 years.
You are seen a  sort of very vocal or angry voice within party especially after the abrogation of article 370 abrogation?
It is not the issue of being angry or vocal.  It is about my feelings and emotions reflecting the mood of repressed people who are disempowered and dis-  enfranchised . If my feelings and emotions don’t Potray the emotions and feelings of masses then there is no use of speaking or being in politics.
Did you believe taking Budgam and Beerwah assembly segments  out of Srinagar Loksabha seat after delimitation would hurt your chances?
It is a good question. Had I thought from mere petty votebank politics then taking Beerwah and Budgam from Srinagar Loksabha seat would have been an issue, but then identities and feelings are similar be it Budgam , Beerwah or Srinagar and Shopian or any other part of Jammu and Kashmir,  as we have collectively been robbed of our identity by unconstitutional abrogation of article 370. We all feel suppressed as people and issues, problems are same every year .
What is your development vision ?
A role of Parliament member in development process of his Constituency is there but limited one as it is limited to development fund and centrally sponsored schemes.  Yes, but people are facing lot of issues and the Lieutenant Governor lead administration imposed from Delhi has no clues . We saw a major boat tragedy recently and it was evident that a stalled work on bridge for long time caused it and all this proves lack of development. As Member Parliament I can’t just harp on single issue but have to speak on wide range of issues, but yes my primary Goal as Member Parliament would be to speak on the political rights of masses.
People voting on sectarian lines has been an issue outhere, your take on this ?
You can take my all speech records , online footprints from my days in Assembly and find I have never done politics on sectarian lines. I believe in inclusion of all communities and sectarian politics is never ever in mind and history bears testimony to this fact.
Is NC worried that BJP crossing 400 seats in elections , would harm the  politics of NC?
National Conference is a small entity on national level. If BJP bags huge victory it will be last nail in the coffin of Indian democracy,  as BJP leaders openly talk of ending democracy,  changing constitution and converting India into Hindu Rashtra. Look at the bleak condition of important Institutions like ED, CBI etc under BJP rule as they have eroded Institutions slowly.
What is your message to Waheed Para ?
My message to him is raise in a very emphatic manner the issue of masses of Jammu and Kashmir, who are at this time feeling a lot repressed. Use your Election campaign to raise the voice of people.
Do you believe BJP will be having proxy candidates in Jammu and Kashmir?
Yes for sure. In some constituencies be it Loksabha or Assembly polls they would either put direct candidates or support there B team . Few time back a head of the party openly said BJP is backing him. BJP will have direct or proxy candidates in elections.
Your message to masses?
My message to masses is never lose hope and courge. If we are on right path ,God will definitely grant us victory. Losing hope is not allowed in  our religion.

Navratri,  Eid, Baisakhi fervor galore
News Kashmir Analysis
Festivals are an occasion of joy for humanity. They strengthen the bonds of love and happiness.
Indian culture, festivals are more than just occasions for celebration; they serve as medium to the deepest and most profound aspects of life. Each festival carries its own unique significance, offering valuable lessons, spiritual insights, and cultural traditions that have been passed down through generations.
We are having during this week  festivals related to Muslims, Hindus,  Sikhs coinciding in a single week one after another which is a good omen, and we take a glance on all these .
Chaitra Navratri is a nine-day Hindu festival celebrated annually from the first day of the Hindu Luni-Solar calendar. This year, it will begin on April 9 and end on April 17. While there are four Navratri celebrated throughout the year, Chaitra Navratri and Shardiya Navratri are more popularly observed across the country. Devotees worship Maa Durga and her nine divine forms during Chaitra Navratri. However, on the last day, they celebrate Ram Navami. It marks the birth of Lord Rama. Meanwhile, the nine forms of Maa Durga are known as Navdurgas. They are Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmacharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Skanda Mata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kaalratri, Maa Mahagauri and Maa Siddhidatri.
The holiday on this account is in Jammu and Kashmir and many other states is  on April 9.
The holiest festival of Eid al-Fitr will also commence on either 10 April or 11 April depending on sighting of moon. The   ’Holiday of Breaking the Fast’ is the earlier of the two official holidays celebrated within Islam (the other being Eid al-Adha). Eid al-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims worldwide because it marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.Eid al-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar; this does not always fall on the same Gregorian day, as the start of any lunar Hijri month varies based on when the new moon is sighted by local religious authorities. The holiday is known under various other names in different languages and countries around the world. The day is also called “Lesser Eid” (Arabic: العيد الصغير, romanized: al-ʿĪd al-Ṣaghīr), or simply Eid.
April 13th we would mark the Baisakhi festival.
Vaisakhi, also pronounced Baisakhi marks the first day of the month of Vaisakh and is traditionally celebrated annually on 13 April and sometimes 14 April. It is seen as a spring harvest celebration primarily in Punjab and Northern India. Further, other Indian cultures and diaspora celebrate this festival too. Whilst it is culturally significant as a festival of harvest, in many parts of India, Vaisakhi is also the date for the Indian Solar New Year.
Sikhs, in addition to its significance as the harvest festival, during which Sikhs hold kirtans, visit local gurdwaras, community fairs, hold nagar kirtan processions, raise the Nishan Sahib flag, and gather to socialize and share festive foods, Vaisakhi observes major events in the history of Sikhism and the Indian subcontinent that happened in the Punjab region. Vaisakhi as a major Sikh festival marks the birth of the Khalsa order by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of Sikhism, on 13 April 1699.Later, Ranjit Singh was proclaimed as Maharaja of the Sikh Empire on 12 April 1801 (to coincide with Vaisakhi), creating a unified political state.
Undoubtedly, we should take this as a very good omen that festivals belonging to different faiths are dawning in a single week.

Over thinking Hurts

Overthinking Hurts
By Nazema Parray
While going through my robotic routine my mind usually remain occupied with some things that are unimportant. The things that drains my mental health and makes me prisoner of my own unending thoughts. These endless thoughts that comes out of nowhere drags me to unknown places that seems horrible.

As a human we have become habitual of accepting commands and always thrive to finish them on time as if our minds are replaced with machines. Then comes the process of thinking that we  have kept on the loop in our mind. These thoughts and this phase of thinking is called Overthinking. Correct me if I am wrong if I would say this phase a Satanic phase because in this process we are at our lowest vis s vis our emann become weak.It is a process when our desires lead us to astray.
In this overthinking phase we want to understand the things according to our understanding. We want certain events to happen according to our wishes that has already happened or about to happen in future time. We don’t want to consider about the others way of thinking and their mental capabilities. We confuse our mind in tiresome issues that has taught us lessons and has made us better and stronger in present. We need to end this cycle by accepting the fact that past has gone future holds bundle of surprises and we need to concentrate on present moment.
Overthinking leads one to self doubts .If We really want to do something just act.  We as a Muslim should surrender ourselves and our future to Almighty as He Is The best planner in whole universe. We should break this satanic cycle by keeps our mind busy in zikr of Allah. Most of over thinkers are physically doing their work but they are mentally exhausting thier mind with the things that are not in our control.
Overthinking will lead you to nowhere. We cannot change others but yes we can change ourselves.Be The Change and stop overthinking about past and future.we should focus on what we have in plate at present and we should know the art of enjoying this platter as Everyone is not as fortunate as you .Be thankful Be Mindful Trust His Plans and Surrender Yourself To Him.

Pinky’s Childhood!

PINKY’S CHILDHOOD!
( An Autobiographical story of eminent Odhisa writer Monalisa Parida to be taught in Nepal schools for Grade 7 Students)
Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Pinky who lived in a small village, Chhoti. She was a lively child whose passion was playing, studying, writing poems, short stories. She was a bright student of Ramachandi Sikshya Niketan, Chhoti who loved learning new things and was always curious about the world around her. As she grew older, she realised the importance of education. Her parents were farmers who worked hard to feed their family. Despite their hardships, her parents valued education and always encouraged her to study.
One day her father got some work in Cuttack, Odisha. Pinky convenienced her father to accompany him on the trip. It was a matter of  three days. So her father agreed. She packed her luggage and very excited to go there, where she could start her new professional life. When pinky reached at Cuttack, she saw the buildings, shopping Mahals, pakka roads etc. There were full of crowed where one couldn’t breathe fresh air. She felt suffocated. So, Pinky returned her own village where she could breathe clean air and played with her best friend Niki to whom she loved more than her life. Though Pinky was a bright student in her school but her family members especially her grandmother opposed her not to go to school whom Pinky loved more than her mother. But her family members allowed her cousin brother to study hard and supported him to reach his destination. When she saw the opposition of her family members, she was weird. And thought “Why is she not going to school?” But her father supported her to go to school where she can built her future.
Pinky was inspired by her father’s word and decided to pursue her education further. Through her journey, Pinky realised that education was not just about getting a good job or earning money. It is about gaining knowledge, developing critical thinking skills and using that knowledge to make a difference in the world. She understood the value of education and how it could empower individuals and communities.
By the blessings of Maa Ramachandi, support of her parents, relatives and friends now Pinky became an Assistant Professor of English at Bhubaneswar College of Engineering, Khordha, Odisha who is also an international recognised poetess of Odisha.
The moral of the story is that education gives us identity and helps us to make the right decisions.
